Uncovering health myths with primary students
Last week, we had the chance to receive the students from the 6th year of Lorenzo Medina primary school. They had been working together with some of our students in 3rd year in an activity concerning myths related to health.
First, the 3rd-year students had worked in groups to create podcasts about misconceptions that many people have about health. For example, it is thought that we can get sick just by being cold for a while, but our students researched to discover that that is not true.
Once they had created their podcasts, the students from primary school listened to them and prepared questions for the podcasts’ performers. After that, they came to our high school, where all of them could meet in an English lesson. The lesson was given in the gardens of our high school, where the primary students could ask their questions to the secondary ones.
Finally, the secondary students prepared some games in English for the primary ones, which was a fun way to speak in English among themselves.
We are sure this was an excellent opportunity for both primary and secondary students, who were using English in a real context, different from the typical classes they are more used to.
We would like to thank Lorenzo Medina school for their willingness to take part in this activity. Sharing experiences among schools is great for improving our students’ learning. We hope we can keep on doing more things together.
