Miércoles, 20 Marzo, 2024

Being mindful of sugar content, reading food labels, and opting for a balanced diet are essential to reducing the negative health impacts associated with excessive sugar consumption.

That is why, from the 1st year bilingual mathematics class, we have done a project where we have included all the sugar that each food has together with an image and some lumps of sugar representing the sugar that each food has in total.

Excessive consumption of foods that are high in sugar can have bad effects on health. Here's a summary and percentage analysis of common sugar-containing foods:

Consuming foods that are high in sugar can lead to several health problems. It is linked to weight gain, obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular problems, dental problems, inflammation, and the risk of fatty liver disease. It is crucial to be aware of the impact of sugar intake and make informed dietary choices to mitigate these health risks.

1. Sweets and Desserts: They often contain more than 50% sugar, which contributes significantly to daily sugar intake.

2. Soda: Regular soda and sugary drinks can have sugar concentrations ranging from 10% to 15% or higher, making them important sources of added sugars.

3. Candy: Confectionery items can exceed 80% sugar content, posing a risk to dental health and overall well-being.

4. Processed foods: Many processed foods, including breakfast cereals, sauces, and condiments, can hide significant percentages of sugar, becoming notable sources of added sugars.

5. Juices: Despite being natural, fruit juices can contain high levels of sugar, especially if they are not 100% pure and with added sugars.

6. Flavored yogurts and dairy products: Flavored dairy products often contain sugars that are not the same as those of the flavored dairy products.

7. Baked goods: Cakes, cookies, and pastries can have high percentages of sugar, making them notable sources of added sugars in the diet.

This has been an excellent way of joining maths to caring for having a healthy diet.
